Morocco Grand Tour

⇒ Day 1: Arrival in Tanger & Transfer to Chefchaouen

Day 1 of your 10-day Morocco tour will see your driver guide waiting to pick you up at Tanger airport. If you happen to arrive on a morning flight, the first leg of the journey includes a visit to what is known as the beautiful Hercules Cave-an amazing geological site with much historical relevance; this is not for just nature lovers but also for enthusiasts of history. Another stop that you will have will be for a panoramic picture point where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea collide. Finally, the day entails visiting Cap Spartel, which brings forth overwhelming views from the lighthouse. After all these, you’d be driving towards Chefchaouen for the remainder of the tour.

The journey begins at the second closest point to Spain after Tunisia. We go to the Medina of Tangier where the love for stunning ocean and port views will seduce you. It is a trip through Rif Mountains and some great stops along the way after lunch to take in the scenery-a beautiful compilation of afternoon. We ended up in Chefchaouen, popularly known as the Blue Pearl or Blue City in the early evening. You’ll have two days to discover this great city known for such bold, blue-painted buildings. You’re sleeping in a traditional Riad, right in the Medina, for the night.

⇒ Day 2: Free Exploration Day in Chefchaouen (Blue City)

After breakfast, indulge yourself in the day’s exploration in the striking blue-painted Medina of Chefchaouen. It is the color that is believed to ward off mosquitoes, as well as the beautiful narrow, well-looked after streets. The foundation dates back to the year 1471, but the construction of the fortress served as a bastion against the colonialism that the region experienced. Another popular activity is climbing the mountain to get to the Spanish Mosque, which sits atop a small hill, allowing for stunning sunset views. Return to your riad after a day of exploration and reflection on the city in its beauty and history.

⇒ Day 3: Chefchaouen » Volubilis (Roman Ruins) » Meknes » Fes

Today, we are very much on our way of saying goodbyes to Chefchaouen and heading deeper into the country to Fes with two historical stops. The first of these is Volubilis, an ancient city founded over 2,300 years ago by Carthaginian merchants and subsequently much expanded by the Romans. The ruins of Volubilis are impressive: temples, courts and public spaces, baths and houses, some richly adorned with mosaics and tiles. Volubilis was once the distant capital of Mauritania. The turn is brilliant at this remarkable landmark; we next make our way into Meknes in Fes, really enriching our experience of nature against the historical bounty that is Morocco.

Next, we head to the captivating Ismaili capital, Meknes, where life is delightful. Typically, it houses completely peaceful parks and villages, but at the old city within an architectural wonder over a thousand years old. Since 1996, Meknes has enjoyed UNESCO status as one of the World Heritage sites, identifying itself by a rich historical and cultural significance.

During King Ismail’s reign, the city of Meknes was beautifully adorned with impressive monuments, including religious schools, mosques, wheat warehouses, and stables, as well as its remarkable 40-kilometer-long wall. In Meknes, there’s much to explore, starting with the Museum of King Ismail, Hri Swani, and Sahrij Swani. Other notable sites include the Qara Prison and Bab Mansour.

⇒ Day 4: Fes Sightseeing tour of the city with a Local tour Guide

On Day 4, embark on a historical exploration of Fes after a traditional breakfast in your riad. At 9:00, your driver guide will bring you to these golden royal gates where you will meet an expert local guide who will take you through the ancient city, whose origin dates back to the 12th century. The journey will begin with the majestic grand doors of the King Palace, paving the way for an interesting day’s discovery.

But of course, it has the beauty of being inside. The beautiful doors are embellished with engraved tiles, wood, and mosaics. In the midst of all this is the pottery factory, a place that continually gives birth to ideas and dreams. Distinctively beautiful, the pottery there reflects the rich cultural heritage of Morocco. It is the pursuit of that dream, by the skilled artisans who form clay into decorative plates, bowls, and vases, with tiles as well. Each handcrafted piece showcases true talent and tradition in Moroccan craftsmanship, making this place a true treasure of art.

Medina and it’s Secrets:

Navigate down the crowded, narrow streets in the Medina and shutter-view-glass-at-stone while marveling at the exquisite remains of ancient buildings such as al-Qaraouin Mosque and Madrasa, conceived by one ambitious Fatima el Fihria. Continue to the Bounania Madrasa; a fourteenth-century school renowned for its tangle of tile and calm courtyard. Then, visit the famous tanneries, where traditional leather production techniques have been passed down for generations. Concluding the day, take a stroll through the Jewish Quarter, or “Mallah,” immersing yourself in the rich history and cultural diversity of this captivating city.

The history of the Jewish community in Fez, rich with craftsmanship and entrepreneurship, is reflected in the present factory. A guide will take you along this route around this historic site while telling the secret stories and answering all your questions. You’ll discover the ingenious ways in which the factory accommodates the community’s needs. You will later meet again with your driver-guide, who will be saying goodbye to your local guide. It’s a unique and rare opportunity to delve into the lively past and narrow alleys of Fez.

⇒ Day 5: Fes » Ifrane » Cedar Forest » Midelt » Ziz Valley » Sahara Desert

You can get up on the 5th day and take pleasure in really nice scenery; you can start with Ifrane which is popularly known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its kind of architecture that resembles that of Europeans and also due to its winter tourism activities. Moroccans also visit on weekends. We then keep moving to the great Cedar Forest, where the endangered Barbary macaques came from Gibraltar. The place is really nice, although they allow you to feed the monkeys, it is better to take care. Our journey is going through and ended at very beautiful towns: Midelt and Ziz valley, and basing into our destination-the Sahara Desert. We continue our journey to Midelt, a lovely town in the Mid Atlas Mountains, famous for its apple orchards exporting to Europe. Thence, we enter time through the beautiful Ziz Valley famous for its green palm groves and winding river . The local economy thrives on selling dates and date juice. The beautiful part travels with evidence of a vibrant landscape and a wealthy cultural panorama behind it, giving one a snapshot into Moroccan rural life.

We reach the wide golden dunes at the end of the day as the sun is setting-an awe-inspiring sight. The camels are ready and waiting to take you on an exciting ride for about an hour and a half across 6 kilometers of small and high dunes. During this ride, you’ll be stopped to see the outstanding sunset, so remember to carry your camera to capture it. This evening, you’ll be spending the night under the shining stars of the desert while peace will be all around, with an appetizing dinner. There will be traditional Berber rhythms playing around the fire at night, adding to the ambiance of the evening, which is already magical.

⇒ Day 6: Desert Excursion » Khamlia Village » Nomads » Meffis Mountain

On Day 6, an early wake-up is essential to witness what could be the best sunrise of your life. After enjoying a desert breakfast, you have the option to return to the village either by camel or 4×4. It might just be a wonderful excursion to the parts we visit, such as Khamlia Village, where the people themselves have endless warmth and hospitality. Visitors would be given the unique chance by the Berber people, who have passed their lives in this region for centuries, to experience their traditional way of life and rich cultural heritage. It’s a journey that can be remembered for a long time as timeless living.

The black-skinned Khamlia, former inhabitants of Sudan, Mali, and South Africa, have settled in Morocco. In the village, we’ll visit an ancient music association renowned for its Gnawa rhythms. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the traditional glass of tea synonymous with Moroccan hospitality. After that, yourself enjoying the vibrant music and dances of the Gnawa, whose rhythms are so powerful, transports you back in time and makes you forget everything around you, immersing you in the very deep spirituality embedded within their music.

Next to Meffis:

Next, we visit Meffis Mountain, historically colonized by the French, who extracted precious metals, eyeliner, and Galina for mascara from the area. Our journey continues to visit Nomad families living behind the Erg Chebbi dunes, where we’ll spend time with them in their traditional camel-skin tents. After enjoying a glass of tea, we explore a local oasis to learn about desert agriculture and how these oases sustain life. Lunch will be at a local restaurant, famous for its delicious Berber pizza. Afterward, we head to your hotel to relax by the pool, completing the day with an overnight stay in a fantastic hotel.

⇒ Day 7: Sahara Desert » Rissani » Todgha Gorge » Dades Gorge

Day 7 marks a bittersweet departure from the spiritual and magnificent Sahara Desert. Our journey continues, heading towards Rissani; one of the small towns with a traditional market and some historical value. Literally, Rissani is the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty from which stems Morocco’s present king, Mohammed VI along with his royal family. As part of our 10-day Moroccan adventure, we will explore more wonders and magical sites starting from this significant spot in Rissani thereafter moving to Todgha Gorge and Dades Gorge.

We will then visit the ancient market of Rissani dating centuries ago. We’ll then discover what the little town has in store for its visitors and continue to one of the most phantasmagorical wonders in Morocco – the Todgha Gorge. The landscape has some of the tallest mountains forming a visually stunning view with nature gaping at its beauty. The winding river below has carved its path through the earth, creating a deep, unified route that has become one of the longest rivers in Morocco. This river forms the primary source of irrigation for the fountains, orchards, and forests in oases.

⇒ Day 8: Dades Gorge » Kalaat M’Gouna » Ouarzazte » Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah » Marrakech
