We leave the natural charm of Chefchaouen behind and depart for Fes on Day 2, stopping along the way to visit two important historical sites. The ruins of Volubilis will be our first stop; among the oldest cities dating back over 2,300 years, it was founded by the Carthaginians but was later conquered by the Romans who left behind some impressive remains of Roman architecture. This city is famous for some of the best-preserved remains of monuments: temples, forums, public places, baths, and houses decorated with exquisite mosaics and tiles. Volubilis was at one time the farthest away capital of Mauritania, a focal Roman Empire point in settling vast territory. As we wander through the ruins, one can only imagine how life existed in that thriving ancient city. We have a small drive against the background of Meknes to discover even more of what makes up Morocco’s astonishing cultural and historical legacy.

Next, we take a ride into the captivating city of Meknes, once the Ismaili capital, where life feels more tranquil, with green parks, villages, and areas to relax amongst its architectural mosaics in the ancient medeina, which transports you back a thousand years. Meknes is widely known for the historical significance and achieved UNESCO World Heritage status in 1996, which verifies its rich cultural heritage. The city is a great marriage of tranquillity and an intriguing glimpse into Morocco’s past, which makes it well worth a visit.

During King Ismail’s reign, the city of Meknes flourished with impressive monuments, from its religious schools and mosques to wheat warehouses and stables-in addition to its remarkable 40-kilometer-long wall. Visitors can explore major attractions in Meknes, beginning with the Museum of King Ismail, followed by the historical Hri Swani and Sahrij Swani. Other worthwhile places include the Qara Prison and the grand Bab Mansour gate. A full day’s adventure will bring you to Fes, where your driver-guide will deposit you at a charming riad located in the Medina, an oasis from the hustle and bustle of the day.

On the third day of our adventure, we work our way through landscapes that showcase incredible diversity. As we proceed through Ifrane, a city also known as Switzerland of Morocco for its beautiful architecture similar to Europe, this quaint town welcomes tourists especially during the snow season and serves locals for weekend getaways. Further along, we reach the Cedar Forest, famous for tall trees and its protection of endangered Barbary macaques. Originally from Gibraltar, these monkeys found their shelter in the forest. They can be fed by visitors, but some caution is advised due to their wild nature. We will traverse the truly beautiful Ziz Valley taking us up to the Sahara Desert. With each stop we gain an experience that contributes to the rich tapestry of this day’s exploration of the different faces of Morocco.

Upon this, we arrive in Middle Atlas, an inconspicuous town dotted with apple orchards. The apples grown here are exported to European countries, making the place a vocal actor in the fruit trade. From Midlet through the stunning Ziz Valley, a scenic region filled with palm groves and a meandering river. A fertile land whose farmers support themselves mostly selling dates and date juice, enabling the economy to prosper. The mix of scenic beauties and agricultural productivity hence makes both Midelt and Ziz Valley unique thriving destinations in Morocco.

As the day comes to an end and just before the sun sinks in the sky, we arrive at the huge, sweeping sands of an amazing site – the golden dunes. You would find your camels, which have been resting for some time, and all are now ready to embark on this wonderful journey. Ride through the small and Tall striped dunes for 6km for one and a half hours, stopping for sun cameras and a chance to view the sunset. As night approaches, you’ll enjoy a delightful traditional dinner under the stars of the night desert sky. The rest of the evening is by the campfire, accompanied by the sweet sounds of Berber bedtime tunes, remaining a memorable desert experience.

On 4^th day, get up early to witness perhaps the most breathtaking sunrise of your life. After breakfast in the Desert, you`ll have the choice of riding a camel or traveling back to the village by 4×4. The day is spent exploring Khamlia Village in Berberland. Drawn from centuries-old traditions, the Berbers are experienced with offering visitors an ‘in their skin’ experience of how their life was. At the core of this community is hospitality, for they offer a warm welcome at every turn. After this, you will continue the journey to the Meffis Mountain, where breathtaking breathtaking sceneries complete your adventure in the wonders of this region.

Our first visit is Khamila Village, made up of Black Africans who came as immigrants from Sudan, Mali, and South Africa. They built their own village, maintaining their cultural heritage over here. Ancient music association, one of the highlights of your visit, is known for its Gnawa rhythms. You will be welcomed with a traditional glass of tea when you arrive – a warm and symbolic Moroccan greeting. After having tea, you will have a chance to enjoy the fantastic Gnawa music which is well-known for its strongly spiritual beats and rhythmic seduction. Music is very strong and enough to take you away in time and space where you would be lost in magic. Indulge yourself in the history of Khamila’s rich culture where music calls you to forget about the world and connect with eternal.

Next to Meffis:

Next, we get our way to the Mt. Meffis, a well-known independent mountain in the region, where the French colonization once took over. Its riches, made of precious metals, materials that were said to have once composed mascara, like eyeliner and Galina. Later heading to the dunes will continue our excursion, which enjoys visiting Nomad families who live behind Erg Chebbi dunes. We will spend some time with them, in their hand-sewn tents, made from camel skin, enjoying a glass of classic tea. Then, we will visit one of the area oases to find out about desert agriculture and how oases get water. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant famous for its delicious Berber pizza. After that, the drive takes you to a hotel where you can relax and enjoy the swimming pool. End the day with the sweet comfort that night in a luxury hotel has to offer!

Today we take a bittersweet departure from the spiritual beauty of the Sahara Desert as we carry on with our Moroccan adventure. Our first stop is Rissani, a very small town with great historical importance, home to a traditional market and the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty. Its founding in Rissani marked the beginning of Morocco’s current royal family, King Mohamed VI included. After the exploration of this charming town, we are heading onward to the breathtaking Todgha Gorge, famous for its steep cliffs, before arriving at the scenic Dades Gorge. These natural marvels will enthrall us as we pass through some of Morocco’s finest vistas. Today, a spectacular combination of history and unparalleled beauty will wait in store.

An ancient market raging in history will capture us and popularize the spirit of the town. Then onwards shall our journey go, crossing this larger-than-life gorge and viewing at least one of those miraculous natural spectacles. The gorge, dazzling with its soaring cliffs that majestically frame the site, offers a stupendous view to testify to the power and creations of nature. The stream that cut through the gorge, one of the alluring landscapes to delight visitors after thousands of years, wrestles its way through the rock. This is indeed not just a beauty at its height; it is the very source of irrigation that typically nurtures the green orchards, forests, and oases surrounding the gorge. Feasting our eyes on such a wonder is to take a peek at the magnificent forces that nature can imprinted on the land. It is where the dramatic beauty of Morocco’s nature was born.

From vast Saharan dunes in Merzouga, you will travel to the majestic Dades Gorge, witnessing Morocco’s wonderfully contrasting terrains. Shifting from golden sweeping dunes to breathtaking rugged gorges, nature’s beauty unveils itself at every turn. By the end of the day, you’ll arrive at an opulent Riad in time to relax and soak in the comforts embedded within the true charm of Moroccan hospitality for a restful overnight stay.

⇒ Day 6: Dades Gorge » Kalaat M’Gouna » Ouarzazte » Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah » Marrakech

Sunrise breakfast fills the day before we explore the beauty of the Dades Gorges. Here, spectacular cliffs and verdant valleys are combined to produce an unforgettable sight. Next stop is Kalaat M’Gouna, or the Rose valley, famed for its heavily perfumed rose gardens and traditional rose distilleries. Many things, including body crease uses, soaps, rose oils, etc., are made by the local people from rose extract products. Our next stop will be Ouarzazate, visible through the cinematic history and its Hollywood Moroccan nickname. Just after that, let’s visit the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a subsequently UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later, while moving across the checkpoint, we may head toward shifting sightings to Marrakech.

A car heading into Marrakech, the epicenter of film and television, makes a stop for a quick photoshoot on our way to Ait Ben Haddou. Ait Ben Haddou, since 1987, has been a UNESCO world heritage site because of its kasbahs that have earned a kind of celebrity through the many films that have been shot here. Post lunch, we continue driving to Marrakech, stopping at the picturing Tizi N’Tichka Pass some 2,260 m above sea level. By late afternoon, we will enter Marrakech-Antian, where history, culture and color harmonize. Visit the historical monuments, explore the whirlwind of the medina, and discover the tradition of Morocco. At the end of the day, let us give you the chance to spend a night in a charming riad that will graciously envelop you in warm décor and Moroccan charm.
